Women and minority groups with a solid business plan or an up-and-running business need not be afraid to go directly to a bank for a loan. The following are banks that are especially good to women and minority business owners:

1. Fleet Boston Financial Corporation Women Entrepreneurs' Connection - offers a "Partners in Technology" program, which loans computer equipment to women business owners.

2. Bank of America - makes loans and equity investments available to minority and women-owned businesses.

3. Well Fargo Bank Women's Loan Program - to qualify, you must be in business at least 3 years, be profitable, and have satisfactory personal and business credit.
